Newsletter December 2021

Providing relief and support to help children with devastating medically complex, neurological conditions and their families in the St. Louis area and beyond.

Here’s what we’ve been up to…

2021 Impact
Thanks to the generosity of many donors, our Comfort + Joy campaign raised over $150,000. Overall in 2021, the JJMF raised nearly $215,000, exceeding our annual fundraising goal, to support children with devastating neurological conditions and their families. We are so grateful to our community for helping achieve so much success this year. With your help, we were able to expand upon our existing programs, grant more financial assistance than ever before to families, and begin plans to build a desperately needed respite care program starting this year.

Webinar | Navigating Neurological Conditions
Watch, read, or listen to JJMF’s latest NNC Webinar featuring Genetic Counselor, Erin Beaver. She shares a wealth of resources and knowledge related to her clinical experience working with families as a genetic counselor focussed on pediatrics and neurodevelopment.

Ladybugs, Butterflies & Cardinals: Finding Signs of Loved Ones Lost (Schmid, C., 2021). Written by Genny’s friend and fellow bereaved mom, Connie Schmid, this book is about staying connected with loved ones we’ve lost and the signs they send to us from heaven. A great book to share with children! Be sure to check out all 12 of Genny’s 2021 Book Picks.

On the Blog
Read Genny’s latest blog post, “A New Year and an Invitation to Believe”. Genny shares how her experience with June has shifted her sentiment about the word ‘believe’, seeing it as an invitation rather than a command, and making it her word of the year in 2022. Genny also reveals what’s on the horizon for her passion for writing.

Community Connections
December featured connections with our community through Music Therapy for families, Virtual Trauma-Informed Yoga and Yoga On-Demand for parents and caregivers. Thanks to donor support we look forward to continuing these events for our families from coast to coast in 2022! Register for January connections here.

Oh, what a JOYous night!
Our Evening of JOY event was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who sponsored, bought tickets, bid, bought raffle tickets, volunteered and supported our community. We felt the love and can’t wait to put the money raised into action. An Evening of JOY Photo Gallery.

Did you know?
Worldwide, it’s estimated a baby is diagnosed with Infantile Spasms, a type of epilepsy, every 12 minutes. Even if caught early (June was 8 weeks old), there are very few treatments to stop infantile spasms, which is why research and awareness are so important. To learn more, visit CURE Epilepsy.
