Newsletter June 2023
Providing relief and support to help children with devastating medically complex, neurological conditions and their families in the St. Louis area and beyond.
Here’s what we’ve been up to…
Building Awareness
Lectureship & Parent Café
JJMF loved hosting Blyth Lord, founder and executive director of Courageous Parents Network, as our guest speaker for two events during the month of June. During the annual lectureship at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Blyth spoke to clinicians about providing support to parents and caregivers as a way of advancing patient care. She also led a beautiful Parent Café for our local community of parents and caregivers for a time of connection and understanding.
Cerebral Palsy Center Family Day
It was an honor to participate in St. Louis Children’s Hospital Inaugural CP Center Family Day Event. We had a wonderful time connecting with new families, and learning from speakers and other local resources.
Bookmarked
Rising Strong by Brené Brown encourages readers to embrace the vulnerability we experience from facing difficult situations in our lives and includes helpful tools to explore the associated emotions. While the book was written for a broad audience, we found the message to be especially relevant for our courageous community and added a copy to our special Month of June care packages.

Advancing Patient Care By Providing Support to Parents and Caregivers
This month on the blog, we shared the important message that Blyth Lord presented to an audience of medical professionals at JJMF’s annual lectureship at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Read more here about Blyth’s impactful talk on the blog: Advancing Patient Care By Providing Support to Parents and Caregivers.
Community Support
Care Packages
With the help of many incredible volunteers, we assembled and delivered 200 care packages to parents and caregivers. These care packages are carefully curated to include items that provide comfort and support from a community that understands the unique challenges faced by parents of children with medically complex neurological conditions and bereaved parents.
Katie’s Pizza
Our Month of June Parent Connection Event took place at Katie’s Pizza in Town & Country on June 21st. Providing these unique opportunities for parents and caregivers to meet, relax, connect, and enjoy the companionship of those who understand is an important part of JJMF’s mission. In-Person Music Therapy
On June 24th, Maria Carron of Midwest Music Therapy led quite a dance party at our Month of June In-Person Music Therapy event in Drace Park. The kiddos moved and grooved and even got to strum Maria’s guitar!
