A Fun Night of Celebration and Awareness Awaits by Guest Bloggers Julie Linihan and Amy Sexauer
June Jessee Memorial Foundation’s signature annual fundraising event, An Evening of Joy, will be held on Wednesday, November 16th at The Hall at Olive + Oak in Webster Groves, Missouri. As guest bloggers, event co-chairs Julie Linihan and Amy Sexauer are sharing their personal perspectives and excitement about the event. For more event information, visit the JJMF website. Save the date on your calendar now! Ticket sales will be live in late September.
For event co-chairs Julie Linihan and Amy Sexauer, supporting An Evening of Joy is all about helping families facing the challenges of their children’s severe neurological impairment. As Julie, a personal friend of the Jessee family and longtime supporter of the JJMF, shared, “Honoring June’s legacy and helping families get support during one of the most difficult times of their lives ensures families in need get care they may not otherwise receive. If we can bring a little bit of sunshine to their lives during a dark time, then we are making the world a better place, even if only for that moment.”
Amy, whose young daughter Marlie is affected by a medically complex, neurological condition, has experienced this sentiment firsthand. When her family was nominated for a JJMF financial grant several years ago, Amy felt a strong desire to get to know the Jessee family. According to Amy, “Meeting Genny during a very difficult and unknown time in our family’s life was so helpful as we navigated our daughter’s diagnosis. After meeting her in person, I felt such a connection and could truly feel how passionate she is about the mission of JJMF. I’ve been involved with the foundation ever since and enjoy spreading such an awesome resource for our community.”
While the event is an important fundraiser for the JJMF, it’s also an opportunity to spread awareness of the unique needs of families impacted by their children’s severe neurological impairment. As Julie pointed out, “When you attend the event, you gain a greater understanding of the emotional and financial support JJMF families need, and you know you are supporting a great cause!”
Raising awareness and funds for such an important cause comes along with a lot of fun, too. One of Amy’s favorite parts is enjoying the event alongside so many people who are special to her family. “I get a kick out of seeing all the attendees who share in the excitement of the JJMF, especially our friends and family who are our #1 support system. It feels so great to see these people standing beside us during the fun times too.”
What are Julie and Amy most excited about at this year’s event? Amy and Julie agree that it’s fun to listen to the comedic entertainment of emcee Tim Convy, and live music by Latin-inspired instrumental band Acoustik Element will be a great addition. You can also get a little holiday shopping done early at the silent auction. Amy adds, “It’s such a fun night, a great excuse to meet up before the hectic holidays & not to mention, the awesome raffle items! You’ll have to attend to find out!”
