Newsletter October 2023

Providing relief and support to help children with devastating medically complex, neurological conditions and their families in the St. Louis area and beyond.

Here’s what we’ve been up to…

Community Support
Halloween Party
Our annual “Not-So-Haunted House” Halloween Party at The Magic House was our biggest turnout to date! We loved seeing everyone’s costumes as they enjoyed having private access to explore the Magic House. We are already looking forward to next year!

Are you a parent of a child with medical complexities and attended this year’s Halloween Party? If so, please help us shape our plans for next year by filling out our guest experience survey.

Rett Spectrum Family Conference
Genny presented to families as a guest speaker at the Rett Spectrum Family Conference at St. Louis Children’s Hospital on the subject of “Finding Caregiver Wellness through Community Support & Joy”. Her favorite part was being able to engage in meaningful conversations with the families in attendance and hearing what was working for them.

Impact
Volunteers make a big impact on our mission, and Greg Iverson’s team, The Iverson Group, is always ready to lend a hand! We are grateful for their incredible support last month to create goody bags for all the children who attended our Halloween party.

On the Blog
This month, Genny shared about her family’s decision to donate June’s body to the Undiagnosed Disease Network, and Dr. Sessions Cole provided recommendations of considerations families can take before and after death based on his experience with affected families. Read “A Different Kind of Hope: The Diagnostic Odyssey Can Be Solved Even After Your Child’s Death”.

Bookmarked
Pick a Pumpkin by Patricia Toht is an adorable children’s book that incorporates beautiful illustrations and catchy rhymes as the characters embark on a pumpkin carving party.

Building Awareness
National Parenting Week
The month of October included ‘National Parenting Week’ which meant we had the opportunity to recognize the parents in our JJMF community for the resilience and dedication they display on a daily basis.
